Why we train to an off leash standard

We train dogs to an off leash standard because we need to know that whether we have the crutch of the leash or not that our dogs are going to listen to us. We shouldn’t NEED to use leash pressure to help our dogs into position each time. Being off leash helps us see the holes in our dog’s training so that we can correct them. That’s not to say every walk you take your dog on needs to be off leash. BUT, when you are in the final stages of training you need to continue to proof your commands off leash so that you can actually see your dogs mistakes and address them.
