Lightning strikes Mecca amid storms and flooding

Is there a more apocalyptic vision than a huge lightning bolt hitting Mecca’s clock tower? The terrifying spectacle was caught on camera Wednesday, while Saudi Arabia is battered by severe storms and flooding. Rare torrential rain and gale force winds combined to send people, trees and vehicles flying, with billboards and other metal structures collapsing as if they weigh nothing.

Schools and other public buildings have been closed in the area as the storm continues to rage, and the National Center of Meteorology has raised the alert level to red – the highest possible.
