133 Days on the Sun

This video captures solar activity from Aug. 12 to Dec. 22, 2022, using NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. SDO's 13-year orbit has provided invaluable insights into the Sun's influence on the solar system. With three instruments, SDO records a Sun image every 0.75 seconds, while the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly captures images every 12 seconds at 17.1 nm. This 133-day time lapse condenses solar observations into 59 minutes, showing active regions moving as the Sun rotates in 27 days. Bright areas denote magnetic fields trapping hot plasma, causing solar flares. The video includes occasional data gaps due to eclipses or technical issues.
