Prophet Alyasa (Elisha),
Today we are going to talk about prophet Alyasa (Elisha),

Alyasa is prophet and messenger of The Allah who was sent to guide the Children of Israel. In the Quran, Alyasa is mentioned twice as a noble prophet, and is mentioned both times alongside fellow prophets. He is honored by Muslims as the prophetic successor to Ilyas (Elijah)

Elisha is a gender-neutral name of Hebrew origin infused with devotion and dutiful action,he born in 800 BCE
Died in 910 BCE in Samaria,in age of 90 years

Prophet Al-Yasa also referred to as Elisha was one of the prophets of ALLAH (SWT) sent down for the guidance of Banu-Israel. It is mentioned in some narrations that Prophet Al-Yasa alaihissalam was the cousin of Prophet Ilyas alaihissalam and grew under His care. Also, he was the successor of Ilyas alaihissalam.

Prophet Al-yasa is mentioned in Quran twice, first in surah Al-An’am:
“And We gave to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob – all [of them] We guided. And Noah, We guided before; and among his descendants, David and Solomon and Job and Joseph and Moses and Aaron. Thus do We reward the doers of good. And Zechariah and John and Jesus and Elias – and all were of the righteous. And Ishmael and Elisha and Jonah and Lot – and all [of them] We preferred over the worlds. And [some] among their fathers and their descendants and their brothers – and We chose them and We guided them to a straight path.”(Al-An’am 84:87)

and in Surah Saad:
“And remember Ishmael, Elisha, and Dhul-Kifl, and all are among the outstanding. This is a reminder. And indeed, for the righteous is a good place of return Gardens of perpetual residence, whose doors will be opened to them.” (Saad 48:50)

It is said that Prophet Ilyas alaihissalam ,when finished his task of prophethood, he gave his leadership to Prophet Al-Yasa and ALLAH (SWT) gave prophethood to Al-Yasa alaihissalam.

He continued preaching monotheism, the oneness of ALLAH (SWT) to the children of Israel who continuously rejected the faith in ALLAH (SWT) and disobeyed the prophets.

Prophet Al-Yasa is not mentioned much in Quran or ahadees, however, according to some narrations, it is said that ALLAH (SWT) granted him with miracles using which, he brought back the dead to live and ALLAH (SWT) also gave him the ability to cure the blind and people with skin diseases. It is also mentioned in the Jewish sources that the river in Jordan dried up for him when he walked over it, so he cross it easily. Al-Jawaab as-Saheeh by Ibn Taymiyah (4/451-452) and ALLAH (SWT) knows best.

Prophet Al-Yasa continued his prophethood untill 840 years before prophet Isa alaihissalam. He was buried in Palestine.
