Painting Fire in Oils

In this video, I demonstrate how I painted the first coloured layer of this part of a painting showing a man next to a campfire. I almost brought to a finish the fire, so it will only need some minor adjustments in the next stage where I will be using glazing and stumbling techniques to adjust values and create other effects such as the smoke coming out of the fire.

The surface used is Caravaggio linen mounted on board with acid free PVA and primed with white gesso by Golden acrylics.

Oil paints used are Michael Harding, Blue Ridge Oils and Gamblin.
For this layer of the painting, I used Galkyd Medium by Gamblin.
