133 Days on the Sun
This video presents a visual record of solar activity spanning from August 12 to December 22, 2022, as observed through NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). SDO has maintained its continuous orbit around Earth, diligently capturing the Sun's features in impressive 4K x 4K resolution for nearly 13 years. This invaluable dataset has been instrumental in unearthing numerous discoveries regarding our nearest star's behavior and its profound influence on our solar system. Using a trio of instruments, SDO takes a snapshot of the Sun every 0.75 seconds, with the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) alone producing images every 12 seconds across ten different light wavelengths. In this 133-day time-lapse, the focus primarily lies on images taken at an extreme-ultraviolet wavelength of 17.1 nanometers, which reveals the outermost layer of the Sun's atmosphere known as the corona.
