For over a month, the people of Olcott Beach have been dealing with the problems caused by record-high water levels on Lake Ontario. It is taking an emotional toll on many residents who believe there is no end in sight. Weather forecasts are now predicting that Olcott Beach might be in for another difficult night as a strong northerly wind could push more water ashore. There is also a worry that waves could reach seven feet high. Officials fear waves that large could knock apart sand bag barriers and undo some of the work that has been underway to repair damaged shoreline areas on the west-end of Olcott Beach and in Krull Park. Local fire departments are on standby in case things get bad. Town of Newfane Supervisor Tim Horanburg said if evacuations are needed, people will be taken to the Olcott Fire Department. 7 Eyewitness News Reporter Ed Reilly is in Olcott Beach and talked to Water Street resident Chris Irr about the situation.
