Owl are one of those exotic animals that you think you must own one as a pet, because they are unique and make quite a conversation starter, but think again. Owls are not easily domesticated and that is not the only reason against keeping them as pets.

First of all, owl have a destructive nature; their natural killer instinct can be applied to anything from a mouse to the cushions on your sofa. They don’t like to be touched or cuddled in any way; they are high maintenance, because they need to be let to fly regularly and require a lot of attention. They live very long lives and they shed thousands of feathers every year, which get everywhere.

And do not forget about food! You can’t just go to the local store and get Owl Chow, no; owls are carnivores and they eat whole animals, bones and all, but they sometimes like to save parts of the animal and hide it for later. And that is one Eau de Carcass you don’t want in your living room!
