George Stephanopoulos: Let's talk about the crisis at the border. Some heartbreaking scenes down there, right now. And a and a lot of the migrants coming in saying that their coming in because you promised to make things better. It seems to be getting worse by the day. Was it a mistake not to anticipate this surge.

Joe Biden: Well, first of all there was a surge the last two years, in '19 and '20 there was a surge well.

George Stephanopoulos: This one might be be worse.

Joe Biden: No, well, it could be, but here's the deal. First of all the idea that Joe Biden said come, because I heard the other day that they're coming because, you know, I'm a nice guy and I won't do it Trump did.

Candidate Joe Biden 2019 Debate: What I would do as president is several more things because things have changed. I would, in fact, make sure that there is, we immediately surge the Border, all those people are seeking asylum. They deserve to be heard. That's who we are. We're a nation that says if you want to flee and your fleeing oppression, you should come.
