I have tested several budget priced tablets from the curiously named CWOWDEFU company and this one is the best yet. The others were fine for the low price but this one has the snappiest performance, the best screen and is the only one with GPS, a feature seldom found in entry level tablets.
The tablet arrived presented in a simple and rather down market box inside of which were the tablet itself with a prefitted screen protector, a second screen protector, charging cable, UK Power Adapter, a touch screen pen, and a small but well written user guide. The tablet itself seems well made and is quite heavy in the hand, perhaps due to the all metal body casing. The USB power adapter and stylus pen feel a bit lightweight but work OK and get the job done.
The tablet is pretty much standard as regards features. It runs an almost completely clean version of Android 12 with only a few non standard apps detracting from an otherwise pure Android experience. All the usual buttons and ports are to be found along the side and I was pleased to see charging and data transfer is done through the latest USB-C interface, again a feature too often lacking in budget tablets. There is a Micro-SD card expansion slot (maximum size 512GB) and a reset port in a gromett protected bay along one side. On either side are speaker grills, which I presume to be stereo. Inside the device features a 2.0 GHz Octa Core MediaTek MTK8183 CPU with 6GB of onboard RAM and 128GB of built-in storage.
The 1280 x 800 10.1″ IPS screen is not the brightest I have seen but is fine when cranked up to maximum with colours that are well saturated and accurate and a distinct advance from earlier CWOWDEFU tablets, which were themselves pretty decent.
The front and rear cameras, 13MP 4096 x 3072 and 5MP 2592 x 1944 resolution, are rather better than I expected and in strong flat lighting give perfectly acceptable results for the price. I found the camera worked better for still images than video due to the fairly low video frame rate.
As you would expect it supports both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wifi. I had a few authentication issues when setting up additional wifi connections after the primary one, but that may have been due to a peculiarity of the routers I tested it with. It also has Bluetooth, which my AIDA64 testing app shows to be Bluetooth 4+.
My current tablet is an Amazon Fire HD 10 and I have to say I find the browsing and scrolling experience with this CWOWDEFU device is far snappier, faster and altogether more enjoyable. I found apps opened faster and screen navigation in general is far better.
Another selling point for this device, and unusual for this price point, is that it has onboard GPS which could make the device very useful in the car as a TESLA style navigation device! However, the heavy weight of the tablet would mean that a decent quality mount would be needed.
It is currently priced at £129.99 before discounts and at the time of writing substantial discounts are available and for that, this has to be an excellent buy.
