Demeter was worshipped in Ancient Greece as a Goddess of the earth and agriculture who sustained humanity through her blessing the earth with rich bounty. She presided over the Mystery Cults which promised its initiates the path to a blessed afterlife in the realm of Elysium. Demeter was often seen as a mature woman, wearing a crown of flowers and bearing sheaf's of wheat or a cornucopia (horn of plenty).
