Levels of Fitness Motivation, extrinsic, intrinsic and flow. weight loss, build muscle, fitness

It takes more than motivation to get fit, it takes action. The stronger the motivation the easier it is to take action. Knowledge can be a great motivator but some times knowledge alone isn't enough.

There are two basic types of motivation extrinsic and intrinsic. Extrinsic motivation is quite often what gets us started. It is when we exercise for rewards. We may want to lose weight, build muscle, gain more energy, prevent disease or live longer. But because it takes time to reach these goals. There is no sense of immediate fulfillment. So if we only have those type of goals then it becomes hard to continue training.

This is where intrinsic motivation comes in. Intrinsic motivation is when the exercise itself becomes the reward. It is when you want to train and progress for no other reason than, you want to do it.

Flow is the moment when you get so into your training that you lose all track of time. you are so focused on each rep. How it feels, what is the tempo of the set. How your body is responding?

By having a combination of all of these levels of motivation and awareness. We can stay motivated and progressing toward our goals.
