There is a new school line of thinking, it actually started to become popular in the 1900's and that was if we trained for less than an hour we would avoid over stressing our bodies and having cortisol spikes putting us into a catabolic state eating away at our gains.

Cortisol is secreted by the Adrenal galnds during periods of stress. So when it comes to training Cortisol spikes are more related to training intensity, than training duration. So along with spikes in Growth Hormone, IGF 1, and Testosterone. We have Cortisol coming along for the ride.
