High Volume Training VS High Intensity Training! Arnold Schwarzenegger VS Mike Mentzer

Volume and Intensity, somehow we have taken these two components of fitness and separated them like they don't belong together and while they might be at opposite ends of the spectrum you can't change one without affecting the other. But let's first be clear as to how volume and intensity are defined in weight training terms.

So volume is measured in the number of sets and reps you preform in your workout. Where as intensity is defined as the amount of weight you lift. Not necessarily the total amount moved but more the percentage of your one rep max.

So say when you started you could bench 150 lbs for 8 reps, now your benching it for 15 reps. They would say you've increased the volume of your workout. But if instead you now still bench only 8 reps but the weight has gone up to 200 lbs, they would say you increased the intensity of your training. How they got separated is because of a debate that began as to which is better and we had some pretty heavy hitters on either side of the debate, in Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mike Mentzer.
