Jeep Rust Prevention Products and Controlling Corrosion
Viewer digression, this video might put you to sleep unless you really want to listen to me talk about my rust control experiences on the Jeep....
I was asked by a subscriber to make a video about some of the rust control products I use on the Jeep Cherokee and my experiences with the Jeep XJ Box Rocker mod. I did the Box Rocker mod about 3 years ago and over that time I have made some adjustments over my original install.
I have owned the Jeep XJ for just over six years and the frist two years of its ownership was spent doing restoration and corrosion prevention to the underside, inside the frame, doors, box sections, cavities and seams. It took many many months and many more weekends to chase, cut out, weld in and clean back signs of corrosion. It was at this time that I began using Dinitrol 3125 HS, Dinitrol 447 Protect Super and Testrolseal by Carplan (not sponsored).
These three products have been protecting the Jeep for around four years now and last month I decided it was time to see what was going on under the protective coating.
It took several weeks to strip everything off but once removed I was delighted to see no returning rust or continued growth (for lack of a better word) of existing surface rust.
I think this probably the first time that I felt like I made some progress and wasn't disappointed in the results when It came down to rust control.
I have used other products like prevention primers, converters, oils, paints and encapsulates and sadly most don't live up tp the label on the box.
Penetration and water displacement combined with rust inhibitors is probably why the 3215 HS works so well although I am sure it can be made more effective with thinners and high pressure application through a cavity wax atomizer nozzle which Is how I have applied it this time round.
The key is always in the prep with any product and obviously a shot blaster and complete removal of all rust is the absolute. But this isnt always an option given DIY garage tools, time, resources and the plain fact that rust between seams requires removal of spot welds and seam separation. With the practicalities in mind Rust Control is a more realistic option for a lot of people like me and I am very happy with the results.
Waxes like Dinitrol can put some off as they are known for attracting dirt and being difficult when working on the Jeep. My experience with it has been pretty positive and with several years of off-roading it has always cleaned up back to black with a pressure washer and also been easy to remove with thinners when work in a specific area is required.
Anyway I thought I would share my experiences with these products as many like myself want to stop existing rust, protect and prevent further corrosion from occurring.
Thanks for watching.
