The NEOWISE mission, equipped with a space telescope, not only contributes to our understanding of cosmic changes but also serves as a vigilant sentinel for potential Earth-threatening asteroids and comets. Initially launched in December 2009 as the Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE), this telescope was primarily designed to explore the infrared universe, unearthing asteroids, stars, and galaxies. After completing its primary mission in February 2011, WISE was reawakened in December 2013 to undertake the NEOWISE project. This re-purposed instrument studies near-Earth objects (NEOs), distant asteroids, and comets, providing invaluable insights into the dynamic cosmic landscape.
