The Peripheral is an American science fiction series produced by Amazon. Set roughly a decade in the future, with new technology that has changed society in subtle ways, a VR gamer is delivered a connection to an alternate reality as well as a dark future of her own. The series premiered on October 21, 2022, on Amazon Prime Video. In February 2023, the series was renewed for a second season.
Now there’s bad news for the fans as Prime Video has cancelled The Peripheral season 2. The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that season 2 is no longer moving forward at Prime Video. The announcement comes just six months after the streaming platform renewed the sci-fi show for another season. Sources report that the season 2 cancellation comes from the ongoing Writer's Guild of America and Actors’ strikes.
The Peripheral season 2's cancellation marks a disappointing trend for the sci-fi genre in television as a whole, as it comes nearly a year after HBO not only cancelled Westworld prior to its planned final season, but also removed it from HBO Max a month later.
