The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is a large, powerful space telescope launched by NASA. It's designed to study the universe in infrared wavelengths, allowing it to observe distant galaxies, stars, and planets. The JWST aims to provide significant advancements in our understanding of the early universe, the formation of stars and galaxies, and the atmospheres of exoplanets. It's named after James E. Webb, a former NASA administrator. As of my last update in September 2021, the telescope was scheduled for launch on December 18, 2021. Please note that there might have been developments since then.
