When you buy a used car in the UK, is it too much to ask for your used car history check to actually mean something? When AutoTrader tells you that a car has not been recorded as a write-off that actually mean something? Or do you think it’s fine if you’re one of the unlucky ones who realise they’ve bout a Cat S write-off with a hidden past despite the history check giving you no idea about it? to be clear this can affect you anywhere, there are main dealers selling these cars as well as independents and private sellers - if you're buying a cat s car or a cat n car (regardless of if they were added to the register by the insurer) you should know about it when buying a used car - especially if you've already done an Experian check or an HPI check.

I am very angry about this as literally hundreds of thousands of cars are not showing in that register that should be and it seems that the DVLA, HPI, Dept for Transport are not taking any action to rectify this despite knowing the situation. How can these organizations fail to act when they know there are hundreds of thousands of salvaged repaired cars on the market in the uk knowing that they show as clear on an HPI check??

Huge thanks for a check for helping me make this video. Please spread the word as this situation needs to be known by anyone buying a used car in the UK today. And understood by many more people than are currently aware and it needs to be fixed by the powers that be.

The good news is that this video will show you how to buy a used car with peace of mind, you basically just need a quality used car check that looks at more sources than just the official databases. HPI checks and the like should give you confidence about your cars past when you buy a second-hand car so make sure you choose a service that genuinely does and let's hope that this ridiculous situation soon gets fixed and that yoiu can buy a used car from the main points of sale with confidence.
