Lionel Messi played in the Leagues Cup final with Inter Miami on Saturday, August 19, 2023, against Nashville SC. He started in the match and played the full 120 minutes. He scored the opening goal for Inter Miami in the 20th minute, but Nashville equalized in the 72nd minute through Hany Mukhtar. Messi had a chance to win the match in regular time, but his penalty was saved by Joe Willis.
