Moon Phases 2022 – Southern Hemisphere – 4K

In the Southern Hemisphere, the Moon's phases occur in the same sequence as in the Northern Hemisphere, but the orientation is flipped due to the perspective from the southern part of the Earth. The key phases of the Moon include:

New Moon: The Moon is positioned between the Earth and the Sun, and its dark side is facing Earth. It's not visible from Earth during this phase.

Waxing Crescent: A small, illuminated crescent is visible as the Moon starts moving away from the Sun. It becomes more visible in the western sky after sunset.

First Quarter: Half of the Moon's face is illuminated and visible from Earth. This phase is often referred to as the "half moon."

Waxing Gibbous: More than half of the Moon is illuminated, but it's not yet a full moon. The illuminated portion is on the eastern side.

Full Moon: The entire side of the Moon facing Earth is illuminated by the Sun. It rises in the east as the Sun sets in the west and is visible throughout the night.

Waning Gibbous: Similar to the waxing gibbous phase, but the illuminated portion is on the western side. It becomes visible in the evening and remains visible into the early morning.

Last Quarter: Half of the Moon's face is illuminated and visible, but on the eastern side. This phase is also referred to as the "half moon."

Waning Crescent: A small, illuminated crescent is visible as the Moon moves closer to the New Moon phase. It's visible in the eastern sky before sunrise.
