“Why Won’t God End Suffering?”
I’ve been a student of media for a long time now, back into my teens. I understand it on an academic level, and I’ve observed with interest how the media landscape has changed throughout my adulthood, with high-speed internet and social media all but replacing the old cable TV model. In today’s news media, you can easily see two opposite phenomena that I believe are related. On the one hand, the actual news is horrific; by many metrics, worse than ever. But on the other hand, the presentation of this news is often cheery, superficial, strangely optimistic. Remember “fiery but mostly peaceful,” anyone? Besides the obvious way that the need for ratings has driven this laughable approach to news, we can see theology itself operating if we know where to look. Today on Something’s Happening Here, we’ll learn a bit about both the media and the Lord. Welcome to the show.
