"Earthrise" is a term used to describe the visually stunning phenomenon in which the Earth's surface becomes visible above the horizon of another celestial body, such as the Moon, when observed from space. The term gained particular significance during the Apollo 8 mission, the first crewed mission to orbit the Moon, which took place in December 1968.

During the Apollo 8 mission, astronauts Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders captured a now-iconic photograph known as "Earthrise." This photograph was taken as their spacecraft emerged from the dark side of the Moon and the Earth came into view rising above the lunar landscape. The image shows the Earth as a fragile and distant blue-and-white orb suspended in the vastness of space, against the stark lunar surface.
