Manchester City vs Sevilla‘s match started with full attacking forces.

That wasn’t in the script. And it was fairly easy for Sevilla to work from the goalkeeper, through the lines, and get the cross in. Then En-Nesyri gets above Ake and Gvardiol to plant a brilliant header into the bottom corner. Whatever Guardiola said to Gvardiol seconds before didn’t work.

Rodri receives the ball from Jack Grealish and looks to chip a pass into the box. Cole Palmer bombs in behind from the right side and would have been in on goal but for Nemanja Gudelj’s interception and clearance. Sevilla need that intervention from the defender.

The heat and humidity is intense so the teams have got a drinks break. The action is unsurprisingly sluggish so far.

At the water break it’s gone a bit quiet. Both sides have sharpened up in defence so there’s not been much to shout about in the last few minutes. It looks like Guardiola was trying to inject a bit of urgency in his players before the restart. Erling Haaland looks a bit isolated so far.

Jesus Navas brings the ball down the right side and slips a pass up to Oliver Torres. He weaves and twists into space before pulling the ball back into the box for Erik Lamela.

Lamela decides to shoot first time and pushes his left-footed effort wide of the far post!

It’s been a decent start from City and they could be ahead. It’s also been a good start from Sevilla. Their manager promised they would be brave and proactive, and that’s what they’ve done. They’re targeting City’s sixth-choice centre-back pairing and have caused a couple of problems. As much as City look capable of creating chances themselves they will be wary of keeping things tight at the back.
