Red Octopus Disappears Down A Wormhole
Octopi are such amazing marine creatures - they can squish themselves down to disconcertingly small sizes to fit through holes, a skill presented by this Red Octopus , as it disappears into a hole on the ocean floor.
The footage, which occurred on April 22, 2017 off Monterey in California, USA, shows an East Pacific Red Octopus stuffing itself completely down a Fat Innkeeper Worm's hole.
The uploader says: “I decided to go look for octopuses out in the sand off the Breakwater Wall. I was surprised to come across an octopus disappearing into the sand. I found another octopus nearby, started the video rolling, and observed this fascinating behavior that I hadn’t seen before. When illuminated by my light, the octopuses would find and disappear into a nearby innkeeper wormhole. I observed several octopuses exhibiting this behavior that night.”
Here’s a fun fact for you: the fat innkeeper worm is also known as the penis fish, which will make complete sense if you've ever seen a picture of one. But this octopus wasn’t looking for some late night loving, if that’s what you are thinking. He was actually hiding from the diver that was filming it, or rather the camera’s blinding light.
