Orphaned newborn squirrels discovered hours away from their mother

When a red squirrel made her nest in a mobile trailer, she had no idea that it would soon be moved, along with her tiny babies. The family who owned the trailer didn't know they were on board until they reached their destination. There, they discovered five adorable but very hungry little souls who had been separated from their mother. They were so young that they had yet opened their eyes. The family took these little orphans to a nearby veterinarian. She and her staff examined and re-hydrated the babies. After a good meal, one of the vet technicians drove three hours to a rehab center where the squirrels could be cared for and eventually released into the wild. Sadly, reuniting them with their mother was not possible but each one will be given the best possible care and a second chance.
