Donkey Kong Country Returns is a side-scrolling platform video game developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo for the Wii. The game was released in North America in November 2010, and in PAL regions and Japan the following month. A Nintendo 3DS port of the game, developed by Monster Games and titled Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, was announced in February 2013 and released in North America and PAL regions in May 2013, and in Japan the following month. The game's story focuses on an evil group of Tiki-like creatures known as the Tiki Tak Tribe, who are released on Donkey Kong Island and hypnotize the island's animals to steal Donkey Kong's bananas. This forces him to retrieve this treasure with the help of his friend Diddy Kong. Donkey Kong Country Returns was the first traditional console game in the Donkey Kong franchise since the release of Donkey Kong 64 in 1999, and also the first game in the Donkey Kong Country franchise not to involve original trilogy developer Rare. The game was a critical and commercial success; over 6.53 million copies have been sold worldwide, making it one of the best-selling games on the Wii, and it has been acclaimed for its graphics, level design and gameplay, although its motion controls and difficulty level have received more mixed opinions. A sequel, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, was released for Wii U in February 2014 and for Nintendo Switch in May 2018.

Mortal Kombat 1 is a fighting video game developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. It was released on September 19, 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Windows. Mortal Kombat 1 is a reboot of the Mortal Kombat series. After ceasing support for Mortal Kombat 11, NetherRealm Studios revealed that it was working on a new project in July 2021. Johnny Cage voice actor Andrew Bowen indicated that the twelfth installment was in development in a hastily deleted tweet. On May 18, 2023, NetherRealm Studios announced Mortal Kombat 1 with a release date of September 19, 2023. It is a reboot of the series and is set in the New Age timeline created by Liu Kang after he achieved godhood in Mortal Kombat 11 in 2019. NetherRealm Studios also announced that those who pre-order any PS5 and Xbox Series version of the game before launch will also receive access to a beta in August, and after the game launches, NetherRealm will provide cross- play and cross-progression.
