Constellation Flight Tests : science
The Constellation Flight Tests were a series of uncrewed test flights of the Ares I-X rocket, which was designed to be the first stage of the Constellation program's Ares V rocket. The Ares I-X launched from Launch Complex 39B at the Kennedy Space Center on October 28, 2009, and flew for 5 minutes and 46 seconds. The rocket reached an altitude of 311,000 feet and a speed of 3,300 miles per hour.
The Constellation Flight Tests were a success, and they paved the way for the development of the Ares V rocket. However, the Constellation program was canceled in 2010, and the Ares I-X rocket was never flown again.
The Constellation Flight Tests were a significant achievement in the development of American space launch vehicles. They demonstrated the feasibility of the Ares I rocket design, and they helped to pave the way for future deep space exploration missions.
