Fire Island is a barrier off Long Island where the beaches were in need of some restoration projects. After Hurricane Sandy the feds stepped up and did a $1.7 billion restoration which shortly thereafter one storm wiped the restoration and $1.7 billion away. Now the beach, towns and island are at the mercy of congress approving money for the feds to restore the beach again.
