Making a cake in MacDonald
Ingredients:
For the cake:
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups unsalted butter, softened
2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup whole milk
For the frosting:
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup whole milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Food coloring (optional)
Instructions:
For the cake:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
For the frosting:
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Mix in the milk and vanilla extract until the frosting is smooth and creamy. If desired, add food coloring and mix until the desired color is achieved.
Assembling the cake:
Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top.
Place the second cake layer on top of the frosted layer.
Use the remaining frosting to cover the top and sides of the cake. You can use a spatula or a piping bag for this.
Decorate the cake with additional decorations like sprinkles, chocolate shavings, or fresh fruit, if desired.
Your classic vanilla cake is now ready to be enjoyed!
Remember, baking times and results can vary based on your oven and altitude, so keep an eye on the cakes as they bake and perform the toothpick test to determine their doneness.
