The number of sockeye salmon returning to the Sawtooth Basin in Idaho has increased significantly this year. As of July 26, Idaho Fish and Game has counted 1,295 sockeyes at the Lower Granite Dam, which is more than double the 10-year average of 754.

The increase in the salmon is a good sign for the Sawtooth Basin. Sockeye salmon are an important part of the ecosystem and their return is a sign that the environment is healthy.
