Political leader killed in Ecuador as violence escalates ahead of elections

In Ecuador, the leader of the Citizen Revolution Party, Pedro Briones, has been shot and killed. The incident follows the assassination of a presidential candidate last Wednesday immediately before the presidential elections which are set to take place on August 20.
