Surrey BC June 26, 2023

Thousands attended the funeral of Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Sunday at the Guru Nanak Gurdwara, Surrey, BC where he was assassinated on June 18. A public viewing was held at the Gurdwara lawns for the slain Sikh leader who was paid tribute by the thousands who then walked 5 kilometers along the casket carrying his body to the funeral home.

Majority of the community members present at the funeral believed that Nijjar’s killing is a direct result of India’s interference into Canada.

Nijjar was President of the Surrey Gurdwara and Chief Coordinator of the Canadian Chapter of global Khalistan Referendum, an initiative of secessionist group “Sikhs For Justice” (SFJ) in which Sikhs across the world are voting on the question “Should Indian Governed Punjab Be An Independent Country?”

In his last address to the community just hours before his death, while urging the people to support the ongoing Khalistan Referendum campaign, Nijjar also spoke about threats to his life at the hands of Indian government which is out to eliminate him for his Khalistan activism.

Honoring the Nijjar’s activism and sacrifice for Khalistan which he continued till the last breath despite threats to his life, SFJ announced to name the September 10 Khalistan Referendum Voting Centre in Surrey as “Hardeep Singh Nijjar Khalistan Referendum Voting Centre, Surrey, BC”.

“Nijjar has been assassinated by the Indian Government due to his active and instrumental support for Khalistan. While India is using bullets to crush the Khalistan Referendum, SFJ’s weapon of choice is Ballot” stated Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, Nijjar’s lawyer and General Counsel to SFJ.

The Voting in SFJ’s global Khalistan Referendum is being held under the guidance and supervision of a panel of non-aligned experts on director democracy – The Punjab Referendum Commission – (PRC) headed by M. Dane Waters, the founder of the Initiative & Referendum Institute at the University of Southern California.

An estimated 750,000+ Sikhs have so far voted in global Khalistan Referendum which started on October 31 from London, UK and has so far been held in Switzerland (Geneva), Italy (Rome & Milan), Canada (Brampton & Mississauga), Australia (Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney).
