The video shows the Sun rotating and active regions passing across its surface. The loops extending above the bright regions are magnetic fields that have trapped hot, glowing plasma. These bright regions are also the source of solar flares.

The video also shows some of the moments when SDO has missed data, such as when Earth or the Moon eclipsed the spacecraft.
