In 2005, a sentient artificial planet known as Unicron devours the planet Lithone along with all but one of its inhabitants, who flees into space aboard an escape rocket. Elsewhere, the evil Decepticons have conquered the heroic Autobots' home planet of Cybertron. The Autobots, under the leadership of Optimus Prime and secretly operating from Cybertron's two moons, prepare a counter-offensive to retake Cybertron.
