THE RISE OF DON AND THE FALL OF CNN - who will come out on top?
Welcome to the Common Sense Garage! Today, we're diving deep into the world of CNN, a network reportedly teetering on the edge of a sale following its acquisition by Warner Bros Discovery. Amidst the challenges it's been facing, you'd think anyone with a smidgen of sense would be eager to cut ties. Since Trump exited the White House, CNN's ratings have taken a nosedive - they just can't match MSNBC's liberal or 'woke' content. The pool of viewers eager for such extreme narratives isn't large enough to sustain two networks.
MSNBC, with its more authoritarian approach, has even hosted guests who've made inflammatory comments, some bordering on advocating violence against President Trump. No Freudian slips there, just blatant extremism. Despite their own shortcomings, CNN can't seem to outdo MSNBC's narrative, and neither are they inclined to adopt a more conservative stance. Remember Trump's townhall and the ensuing uproar? Their crew, essentially left-leaning activists, are more comfortable promoting the Democrats' agenda under the veil of journalism.
Given the potential of CNN being sold for around $5-6 billion, the big question is: why purchase a network that's teetering on the brink? The network needs some serious transformation if it's to stay afloat. Speaking of turbulent waters, the return of Don Lemon is worth discussing. Following a series of offensive remarks, disagreements with female colleagues, and dwindling ratings, he was let go from the network. His racially insensitive comments during a heated exchange with GOP Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy were the last straw.
Despite his myriad of issues, I must admit, Lemon's blunders provided entertainment. Let me know if you miss his antics in the comments. Let's see if his hiatus has brought about any change in him. It appears Lemon has learned little from his fall from grace. He believes his firing was a consequence of truth-telling, when in fact, his unprofessional conduct and inability to avoid controversy were the actual causes. Despite advocating for the Constitution, he's also endorsed censorship and is a well-known 2016 election denier and Russia hoax conspirator. In Lemon's mind, only those who align with his political views should be given a platform. This mindset is a major contributing factor to CNN's decline.
Their focus needs to broaden beyond just Trump-related issues. The public cares about border issues, crime, and education - matters that CNN, despite claiming to have moved to the center, has failed to address. Even with Lemon's controversial behavior and poor show performance, his lack of viewership was sufficient cause for his dismissal.
Ironically, Lemon speaks of press freedom while endorsing the censorship of Fox News and control of speech on Twitter. His conditional commitment to the Constitution only applies when it's convenient. His dismissal of the constitutionally questionable vaccine mandates, lockdowns, and school closures, is testament to this. Despite these glaring inconsistencies, Lemon maintains that he was fired for standing up for the Constitution - a far cry from the reality of his performance and viewer ratings.
Comparing the trajectories of Lemon and Tucker Carlson, who was also fired around the same time, provides a fascinating study. Carlson, who's been successful on Twitter, has managed to build a real fanbase and viewership. On the other hand, Lemon, due to his lack of focus and only serving as a mouthpiece for propaganda, seems destined to fade into obscurity.
So, that's my take on the whole situation. Let's continue the discussion in the comments. Don't forget to like, subscribe, and share the Common Sense Garage.
