KTR 60-Second Spot: Facial recognition to allow access is coming to town near you

Facial recognition technology is now appearing in more places. Consider a convenience store in Portland. If the camera can record your face, you can enter. If the camera can’t, the doors stay locked.

This technology is also used in large commercial buildings, federal offices and airports. Of course we can see our future by looking at China, which has millions of such cameras. Why? They cut down on protests and political dissent. Participate in a protest or take a stance against the government, and your social credit score takes a huge hit. Suddenly you’re banned from planes, and trains, buses, and sporting events. You can’t hold certain jobs.

They SAY it reduces crime. But as more of these cameras appear, we grow closer to totalitarianism.

It wouldn’t take much for a Berkeley graduate to decide people wearing certain red ball caps are terrorists

It’s a fair bet this technology will be misused sooner rather than later -- all in the name of safety, of course.
