God Give Me Strength is the Final Track on the absolutely Brilliant album by Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach, who together, became one of the best Songwriting Duos in the History of Popular Music...this album, Painted From Memory, is indeed one of the Best and Most Important Albums of All Time, and is on my List of the 150 Best Rock and Roll Albums...

The song is perfectly placed as the closing track on this album of Marital and Relationship breakups, as Truly, the only Real Solution for the Healing of the Broken Institution of Marriage is through Trust in God...

Song after Song on this album, Elvis Costello wrote about the pitfalls that exist when Couples attempt to commit to one another long term, inside of this Broken World of Lies and Pressure...sooner or later, one will fall first, initiating a series of events that usually end up not only in Divorce, but Non-Amicable Separations, including Battles over the possession of the Children...and thus, by the end of this end Incredibly HONEST journey through Relationships, the ONLY place that the album could have turned to, was God...

When both Parties are No longer in their Right Minds and Love and Compassion are just ancient Memories, there is no reconciliation at the Hands of Man, only more Pain and Suffering! And thus, all we truly can do is turn to God in complete Faith, that somehow, someway, Day-after-Day, God will see that our Lives continue onwards, and that these Separations and Travails are lessened and eased thru placing our complete Trust in His Almighty Hands...

And then, in time, when everything is RIGHT, He or She will suddenly walk right into our Lives, and then the Memories of the Past are lessened, the Future seems Bright once again, and the NOW is a place to co-exist with another, in True Bliss and Joy! And as screwed up as everyone and everything is, you absolutely KNOW that this is True...that only thru Surrendering to God, will we ever come to know Relationship Bliss once more, and again, precisely when the Time is Right in our Lives, but not until then...
