The Uranium Craze and the Atomic Age of the 1950s
Nuclear history from the 1950s brings us into the Atomic Age, when America was fascinated with the concept of uranium, and the atomic bomb.
The 1950s marked the height of the Atomic Age, which began in 1945 following World War 2, when Uranium and nuclear power rose to prominence as a means of providing energy, creating weaponry, and also made it into the mainstream culture. Nuclear themed toys, TV shows and films, and even live viewings of nuclear bomb detonations were all the rage.
On today’s episode, we explore this fascinating era in American history when tensions ran high with the Soviet Union and citizens became aware of both the threats and the intrigue of uranium and nuclear power. Welcome to the Atomic Age, on Commodity Culture.
