A massive investment of $50 million has been given to the new Calgary Cancer Centre from the Arthur J.E. Child Foundation.

The centre is now officially named the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre in honour of the donation.

The building sits next to the Foothills Medical Centre.

Arthur J.E. Child was a philanthropist known for his generosity and passion for helping people.

He received the Order of Canada in 1985 following his work in the business, military and public service sector.

Staff with the Alberta Cancer Foundation told us how important this new cancer centre is going to be for patients who are battling the deadly disease.

This announcement comes after the Alberta government said this new facility would come at a cost of $1.4 billion.

The $50 million donation represents the largest gift to cancer care and research in Alberta’s history.

The centre will fully open in 2024.
