NASA's Parker Solar Probe Completes 133 Days in the Sun's Atmosphere
NASA's Parker Solar Probe completed its tenth close visit to the Sun in April 2022, spending a record 133 days in the corona, the outermost part of the Sun's atmosphere. Parker gathered tremendous data during this period to assist scientists in unraveling riddles about our star.
In this video, we look at Parker's historic achievement as well as the lessons acquired from spending four months in the hottest and most harsh environment to which humanity has ever sent a spacecraft. Discover how Parker's unique carbon heat shield can resist temperatures as high as 1377°C. Learn about the findings made thus far, such as the zigzag switchbacks of the solar wind and the abundance of dust around the Sun.
Join me in celebrating Parker Solar Probe's 133-day milestone in revealing the Sun's complex processes up close. This gets us one step closer to shielding people and space technology from the dangers of solar radiation.
