Packing of prisoners of the Ukraine Armed Forces around Zolote | Ukraine 2022

The city of Zolote in Sievierodonetsk Raion, Luhansk Oblast, was the site of a series of military engagements during the 2022 Russian Specia1 Military Operation. Ukraine Armed Forces authorities lost control over Zolote to the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) and Russia Armed Forces. On 23 June 2022, Zolote came under the de facto control of the russian army. Around 2,000 Ukrainian troops were surrounded in the city.

The remaining Ukrainian forces retreated from Zolote following weeks of bitter fighting. The loss of Zolote left Lysychansk, the last major Ukrainian-controlled city in Luhansk, in danger of being enveloped from three sides by advancing Russian forces and put the Ukrainian army in a more vulnerable position and made it harder for them to maintain their defensive arc outside Bakhmut.
