Removal of large granuloma of finger
This one was fairly interesting. This patient had injured his finger months before and thought he'd acquired a wire splinter. He could never remove anything but then his finger started to swell. He presented a number of times to the ER and saw a couple of other physicians who weren't comfortable getting involved. He also had a consult in place to see plastics but it was months away and he was quite uncomfortable. This was a good example of a relatively simple procedure in a difficult position. As long as you are aware of the surrounding anatomy and don't overextend yourself, a physician can attempt this type of procedure without getting themselves into any kind of trouble. Worse case scenario, you simply suture closed a wound that then needs to be re-explored at a later date. This, however, healed beautifully and he really doesn't have any appreciable scarring.
