Removal 20 year old Lipoma on Abdomen
The biggest challenge with these procedures is first and foremost the anaesthetic. These end up being large circumferential blocks and there is often the need to 'touch up' certain areas. Beyond that you just have to be familiar with recognizing the difference between basic adipose tissue and the actual lipoma so you can dissect it out properly. Afterwards, whenever you've removed a larger lesion, be it a lipoma or a cyst, you then have to make sure you have good hemostasis. These will be at much larger risk to develop secondary hematomas and those always are a pain and will typically ruin what is otherwise a good surgical result. Finally, and I mention this at the beginning of the video, if you aren't comfortable doing these, or alternatively you sense the patient isn't completely comfortable, simply pass on these larger lesions. Unless you are located in a very remote area, there is likely someone nearby who can do a nice job on these.
