European Union (EU) Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in Slovenia, which she visited after the floods hit the country, that construction should be harmonised with the extreme natural events caused by climate change.
Von der Leyen visited the flood zone in Slovenia and met with Prime Minister Robert Golob.
Stating that she was very impressed to see the extent of the damage on the spot, von der Leyen said that EU countries had sent helicopters, modular bridges and excavators and that the aid would continue.
Von der Leyen emphasised that the disaster was caused by climate change, but the damage could not be explained only by this, and underlined the need for construction suitable for increasingly extreme natural events.
Six people lost their lives in the floods that were effective in the northern, central, eastern and western parts of Slovenia.
