Zangbeto's orignated in the Kingdom of Dahomey ca. 1600 They were created to protect the kingdom against invaders. Dahomey is now part of Benin.

There were made 2 million slaves of which 400.000 were sent oversees!

The kingdom became independant in 1960 and the name Dahomey was changed in Benin. Dahomey country still exist, region of Abomey.
