My old external solid-state drive was acting up and had started making a noise - I did not even know SSDs could make a noise - and so I decided to swap it over before it started causing real problems.

When SSDs first came out they were expensive but now they are very affordable. This 1TB model cost me just £32 and that was by no means the cheapest one out there. I selected this one due to the low price and many positive reviews. There are other models available in the range from 128GB to 2TB. The drive body is made from plastic, weighs in at 40g and is sized 0.01 x 6.98 x 0.71 cm.

When first connected to my Mac the Bliksem KD650 drive mounyed with a Chinese name and was preformatted for Windows but it only took a moment to reformat it for the Mac.

The read and write speeds I got were far lower than those advertised. The claimed read speed is 550 MB/S and the write speed 450 MB/S but with my tests I got around 340 MB/S for both read and write,. However, I was connected to a hub which might account in part for it. In any case, I will be using this drive for storage so fast data throughput is not too important for me.

I cannot speak for how well the drive performs over time but my first impressions of it have been excellent for the price. Of course, time will tell just how long it will stay the course, but there is not usually too much that can go wrong with an SSD.

If you need a well made, well priced and easy to fit memory expansion for your computer or similar device and do not need the very fastest speed, then this might be what you need.
