Heat Wave Tips

We are amid a tough, tough heat wave here in the low desert. Don’t be too hard on yourselves if things aren’t growing well. Plants are putting all their energy into surviving. ⁣
⁣Here are a few things you can do to help:⁣
⁣• Continue with your watering schedule of watering deeply. Plants may dry out more quickly between waterings and need watering more often but resist the urge to overwater. That can be fatal for many plants.⁣
⁣• Shade can help. This sun is brutal. Adding extra temporary shade may be a good idea for some plants or young trees.⁣
⁣• Do not trim or fertilize. Trimming exposes new growth to the sunlight and will usually cause damage. Fertilizing encourages new growth. We want plants to keep the energy they have to protect their roots.⁣
⁣• Mulch!!! If you haven’t already.⁣
⁣• Stay inside and plan your monsoon and fall garden! It’s an excellent time to start many seeds indoors. ⁣
