"Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized soul can impart knowledge unto you because he has seen the truth." (Bhagavad Gita, 4.34)

“One who is searching for the Ultimate Truth must surrender unto a spiritual master, a guru. A guru knows the inner meaning of the Vedas, is fixed in the Absolute Truth and is expert in the Shastra, the revealed scriptures.” (Srimad-Bhagavatam, 11.3.21)

"Unto those great souls who have implicit faith in both the Lord and the spiritual master, all the imports of the Vedas are automatically revealed." (Svetasvatara Upanisad, 6.23)

“Pleasing the guru by rendering personal service attentively for a long time, the aspirant shall always listen with great attention to his exposition of the truths of the Upanishads.” (Narada Parivrajaka Upanishad, 6.22)

"Worthy of adoration is the guru who leads one to Brahman, the Supreme Spirit dwelling in all bodies." (Niralamba Upanishad, 30)

"One who follows the Acharya knows things as they are." (Chandogya Upanishad, 6.14.2)

“An Acharya is one who not only confers the sacred thread upon his disciples, but trains them in sacrifice and teaches them the esoteric meanings of the Vedic scriptures, including the Upanishads. According to saintly authorities, such a spiritual master is an Acharya.” (Manu Samhita, 2.140)

An Acharya is one who fully understands the conclusions of the revealed scriptures. His own behavior reflects his deep realization, and thus he is a living example of divine precept. He is therefore known as an Acharya, or one who teaches the meaning of the scriptures both by word and deed. (Vayu Purana,1.24)

“The guru is the supreme Dharma; the guru alone is the sole means of liberation. He who does not honor his guru, who gives initiation into the single syllable (AUM), has all his scriptural learning, penance and spiritual wisdom oozed out as water from an unbaked clay vessel.” (Satyayaniya Upanishad, 39)
