Towing and Tongue weight, How to tell if your tongue weight is good

Quick video of how to properly measure your tongue weight on your vehicle. This method uses axle weights of the tow vehicle and the trailer if you have no accurate way of measuring the tongue directly.

I was quite surprised that this particular boat and trailer combination is soo poorly balanced. I had moved the boat ahead at least a foot on the trailer because I felt there wasn't enough tongue weight along with storing a bunch of weight in the V-Birth. Apparently I was right and this trailer DOES need to be modified to properly suit a 1987 Hunter 23. Move the winch mast all the way forward as far as it will go, move the battery to the front of the boat, remove the outboard from the back of the boat and at that point you start to approach a more acceptable tongue weight for highway speed towing. This trailers axle is marginally rated for the weight of this boat AND the trailer itself.
